Mini909 is a free sample-based emulation of the Roland TR-909 drum machine, released by Monade Sounds and available as a 32-bit and 64-bit VST/AU plugin for PC and Mac (made with Maize Sampler).

This freely downloadable (with optional donations) plugin is a lightweight version of Monade Sound’s more advanced Pure909 virtual instrument which is currently priced at $12 during the ongoing intro sale ($16 standard price). Compared to the full version of the product, Mini909 features a much smaller selection of on-screen controls, however it is based on the exact same set of Roland TR-909 samples. There are 20 different drum kits to choose from, including the classic, clean Roland TR-909 kit and a collection of various processed sound sets with different flavors such as tape, valve distortion, bitcrushing, etc.

Mini909 provides direct control over each individual drum element’s volume parameter, with the exception of the bass drum which has separate controls for body and click parameters. It is also possible to adjust the global volume and pan settings.

Pure909 goes a couple of steps further, providing various ways to customize the drum sounds, particularly the kick drum (body, pan, decay, click and sub), snare drum (body, pan, decay, noise level, noise decay), hi-hats and cymbals. Interestingly enough, the plugin’s font panel also features a compressor with ratio and threshold parameters, which is something I’ve never seen in a Maize Sampler based instrument before. I’m not sure whether the instrument was built with some sort of forthcoming beta version of Maize Sampler, or if Monade Sounds have managed to emulate the effects of compression with some clever sample layering.

Guiro is a free giveaway from Klevgrand. In short, it is a Guiro that you can play using the modulation wheel on your MIDI controller. Usage
